Tensworth hockey was born long enough ago that we aren't fully sure how we started.

We took off back in 2015 with a new setup and new ideas. Since then Tensworth hockey has grown from strength to strength becoming one of the most looked forward to events in calendars for every U13 hockey player in the North West!

The lead coach Ian Hardingham took Tensworth from a single competing squad to a large competitive, enjoyable and professional environment that brings out the very best from the players. There are now 3 squads of players selected from over 100 trialists from across the North West.

How we became Tensworth

Tensworth Hockey have competed over the last 25 years at the UK Lions Tournament.

The UK Lions tournament is a three-day event currently held in Nottingham at the fantastic Beeston Hockey Centre.

This amazing event fosters lasting friendships through the sport of hockey while elevating individual skills. More information on the UK Lions can be found here.

How it works

All players follow the same process of selection starting around Easter every year.

All players in school years 6-8 can attend a number of trials sessions that will deliver exceptional coaching and assess the players on their abilities both individually and how they can perform as part of a team.

The coaching team will make a selection group to take forward to a 2nd trials weekend where 3 teams are selected to train and compete in the national tournament in Nottingham.

A number of training sessions then take place on weekends over May and June in preparation for the tournament.
